Our Kids & Khakis program saw a substantial increase in requests this past school year, emptying our shelves and keeping us busy with deliveries! With the support of this community, we were privileged to serve a total of 462 children, an 86% percent increase over the previous year.

This program is one of our best boots-on-the-ground opportunities to identify and help the truly in-need children of Midland.

It works like this: Throughout the school year, MISD school counselors/teachers may notice children who always wear the same outfit, or whose clothes are worn out, or whose shoes no longer fit. Or perhaps they identify a child in need of hygiene items or school supplies. They then contact Kids & Khakis at 3:11, and we quickly and confidentially deliver these items directly to the school for the child, often on the same day. 

The goal of this program is to meet essential needs but also to deliver the intangibles of confidence, dignity, and readiness to participate. We want children to walk into their classroom knowing that they are in the required uniform, that their new shoes feel good on their feet, and that they won’t be teased for lack of toothpaste or deodorant.
