 The start of a new school year has our Kids & Khakis program busy, emptying our shelves and keeping us going with deliveries! 

Last school year, with the support of this community, we were privileged to serve a total of 462 children, an 86% percent increase over the previous year. This school year is on pace to meet or surpass those numbers.

Below are some requests we have received recently: 

“New resident at Safe Place shelter - came with nothing.” – request for clothing, shoes, and hygiene on behalf of two boys

“Students are living with Grandma and they are struggling.” – request from MISD counselor on behalf of a 7th grade boy

This program is one of our best opportunities to identify and help the truly in-need children of Midland.

It works like this: Throughout the school year, MISD counselors/teachers or caseworkers at local agencies may notice children who always wear the same outfit, or whose clothes are worn out, or whose shoes no longer fit. Or perhaps they see a child in need of hygiene items or a backpack. 

They then contact Kids & Khakis, and we quickly and confidentially deliver these items directly to the school for the child. 

This program meets essential needs but also delivers confidence and readiness to participate. Children can walk into their classroom knowing that they are in the required uniform, that they can run in their new shoes, and that they won’t be teased for lack of toothpaste or deodorant.
