Board member Sarah Collins, on why she came to be a part of 3:11 –
"I was asked to volunteer with a friend for 3:11’s prom program. There was one day where dozens of girls would come and they would pick a dress and accessories, do hair and makeup, and a little bit of self-love and reflection. These girls were so sweet and grateful just to be there. They all had a different story, but something in common at the same time. Seeing the smiles on their faces when they found the perfect look and knowing that I had a hand in making them feel special was what really got me hooked on working with 3:11."
3:11 is pleased to announce the new 3:11 Dorm Project! Read on for all the info on this opportunity to serve West Texans.
THE 3:11 DORM PROJECT has been developed in partnership with Midland College to serve college students who need extra support as they launch their futures. Classified as homeless, these students have been accepted into the residence hall, ready to work toward a better life, but they arrive on campus with very few belongings and no family support.
They may have absolutely nothing or just some belongings in a trash bag. They need everything from towels to a lamp to a laptop. This is where 3:11 steps in, blessing these students with all of the essentials of dorm life, plus some of the comforts of home. Now, instead of focusing on surviving, they may focus on thriving in their start on a new life.
Several students have been served already by this new program. Here is the story of one life touched:
Student "A" has been on his own since 9th grade. He didn’t make the best choices during the first years of high school, but a counselor helped him redirect his entire trajectory. A realized that to escape his circumstances, he needed an education. He worked tirelessly, holding two jobs and graduating early from high school. A is still working while attending college and is thankful to have a stable roof over his head in the residence hall. When 3:11 approached him to help with dorm necessities, he was blown away that someone thought he was worth taking a chance on. He is learning what it feels like to be deserving and seen by others.
We see the real difference this program is making already, and are very excited to share this with you, our community! #betheblessing
This program is supported in part by United Way.
